Have you ever wondered what kind of beauty products the Little Mermaid would use in her underwater world?
Luckily for landlubbers, we just might have the answer to that question. According to Harper’s Bazaar, beauty product companies have decided that it’s better down where it’s wetter and are flooding the market with lotions and potions containing ingredients from under the sea. If you want to get in on the mermaid-inspired beauty trend, here’s a look at a few products to try:
Ahava Extreme Night Treatment ($75)
You don’t have to sleep with the fishes to get the benefits of this popular Ahava product that improves skin firmness and texture. Its marine ingredients include Dead Sea minerals and “Dunaliella salina, an algae that is the only thing that can live in the Dead Sea.” If the sea stuff is that tough, then surely it must do a decent job of protecting the skin. Algae are also packed with oils, proteins, peptides, and minerals. Other ingredients in the Ahava Night Treatment are Tibetan goji berries, date fruit extract, Himalayan raspberry root, and Icelandic moss.
Viviscal Extra Strength Dietary Supplements ($50)
These pills that promise to make your mane stronger and longer are popular with celebrities, including mermaid-haired model Gisele Bundchen. The pills’ secret sea ingredient is “a protein-rich marine complex.” Other ingredients include biotin, zinc, vitamin C, horsetail extract, and iron.
Restorsea Restoring Night Cream ($175)
Beauty products with marine ingredients are very hot in Hollywood right now – Gwyneth Paltrow and Emmy Rossum are both spokeswomen for the Restorsea brand. All Restorsea products contain a Vibransea complex that’s partly made up of a natural enzyme released by salmon at birth. The enzyme supposedly exfoliates dead skin cells. The Restorsea Restoring Night Cream also contains “a unique olive oil emulsion system,” shea butter, and wild oat extract.
Alterna’s Caviar CC Cream ($25)
If you really want to feel like a mermaid princess, try pampering your hair with this “complete correction” leave-in treatment. It moisturizes your mane with a caviar extract that’s packed with omega 3 fatty acids.
La Mer – The Moisturizing Gel Cream ($285)
Of course this list wouldn’t be complete without a La Mer product since “mer” is the French word for “sea.” This pricey product contains La Mer’s healing “Miracle Broth” made up of Pacific sea kelp. This cooling gel cream is lighter than the original Crème de la Mer, so it’s a perfect pick for a summer beach trip.
